When I find something extremely useful, I want to share it with others. This is the case with Google Apps. What I’m talking about is much more than the consumer tools that Google offers, although the Google Apps is based on these consumer tools. Instead, I am referring to the all-in-one package of Google apps that are grouped together for use in businesses, schools, and other organizations — with your domain (e.g. jeepcollins.com).
The true power of Google Apps is the collaboration capabilities. Take the docs and spreadsheets for example. Imagine editing catalog copy with a small team in real time! As you type, your words appear on everyone’s screen. The document always stays in sync. Or what about the budget committee in your local organization working together on the budget for next year. Forget MS Office. That is just dumb.
Ok, one more example: Shared calendars. Everyone stays in touch with everyone’s schedule. There is no more confusion on who is working this Saturday at the retail store. And since all this is web-based, team members check it from home to stay informed.
Because this thing is entirely free, there is no excuse for not learning to share. It’s what all the cool kids are doing.
